Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Las Palmas

is the capital of the canary island Gran Canaria. 2/3 of the total population are living here. These are about 550'000 people.

Las Palmas has been founded in 1478.

The city lives mainly from the tourism, the fishing and the fish processing.

Exported are food and tobacco.

Sights of the town:

  • the late-Gothic cathedral

  • the episcopal palace

  • a house, that Christoph Kolumbus visited in 1492
